Biography:

I am Dr. M. Rakib Uddin, currently (Since Feb. 2021) working as “Research and Development Engineer” with the State University of New York Research Foundation at the University of New York Polytechnic Institute, Albany, New York, USA. Silicon photonic component development (Design, fabrication and characterization) is my primary role.

I received a PhD degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST, South Korea), with a major/minor in optical communication systems/electronics in January 2010. I was awarded the Korean Government-Brain Korea 2021 (BK-21) postdoctoral fellowship for one and half year (March 2010 – Aug 2011) at KAIST.

From November 2011 until December 2014, I was a researcher for Samsung Electronics, South Korea. During my time at Samsung Electronics, I was involved in the design, process, fabrication, experimentation, and characterization of nano electronics and nano photonics devices. At Samsung, I was given the opportunity to design, procure, and develop the measurement system laboratory for nanophotonics devices and system experiments. During this time, I was awarded seven US patents as inventor/co-inventor and I also published in Nature Communications.

From December 2014 until December 2020, I was an Associate Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Brunei Darussalam.

As of May, 2021, I have more than 100 articles (Google Scholar citations of 526) published in international journals and international conference proceedings including seven US registered patents.

I have excellent experience in teaching digital logics/communications/optics/photonics/fiber optics/optoelectronics/lasers/electronics and related subjects at the university undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as supervising experience of undergraduate and MSc, PhD students.

As a recognition of my excellence in teaching and research, I have been awarded the “University Teaching Excellence Award” as well as the “University Research Excellence Award” in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

I have also experience of management/Administrative role such as Director of Centre for Innovative Engineering, Acting Dean and Deputy Dean of Graduate Studies and Research, Research Coordinator, Project Coordinator in University and Faculty levels.

In addition to my teaching, research and administrative experiences, I have experiences of community services such as paper review for journal and I am a Senior Member of IEEE, USA, a Member of IET, UK and a Member of Optical Society of America.
