Online & Hybrid Course Descriptions


 

Online and hybrid courses are delivered on the SUNY Learning Network on the Brightspace system and open one week prior to the first day of class.

User accountsThe SITNet ID is required to log in to Brightspace, SUNY Poly E-mail and to access library resources.
Online coursesCourse, textbook information and all class participation is online. Two types of online courses are available: 100% asynchronous, and courses with synchronous meetings. Both types have the notation “Online Course”. Asynchronous courses have a section code of 35W to 38W. 
Hybrid coursesHybrid courses meet in-person and online. The course professor determines the in-person attendance and online participation requirements. Hybrid courses have a section number (2 numbers) followed by the letter H (e.g. 01H).
Blended coursesCourse, textbook information and all class participation is online with some course activities at a synchronous day and time. Blended courses have a section code of 35S, 36S or 37S; and the notation “Online Course” with the meeting days and times.

Fully Online Courses

Online course are fully online and are asynchronous and have no meeting time (remotely or in-person). The activities must be completed by the due dates specified by your instructor. Online courses may also have proctored exams. Students will be required to locate their own proctors for the exams. 

Depending on the instructor/department, the course may also use webinars to provide office hours, study sessions, presentations, group projects and recorded sessions. Contact the instructor or department for more information. The section number of online synchronous courses end with a "W".

Online Courses with In-Person Meeting Time

Online synchronous courses are online courses with synchronous sessions via live webinars or other technology. The activities must be completed by the specified due dates. The house may also have proctored exams. Students will be required to locate their own proctors for the exams. The section number of online synchronous courses end with the letter "S".

Online-synchronous courses have a "S" after the section number. The time, days and notes field give information about the online synchronous class meetings. Always refer to the notes for additional course information.

Hybrid Courses

Hybrid courses have classroom meetings (in-person or remotely) and asynchronous online components. The classroom meetings are on a physical campus location, live webinar or other synchronous tools. Lecture/lab courses that have in-person labs and online lectures are classified as hybrids/ Students can expect that up to 49% of the course will be taught online. The asynchronous online aspects of the course must be completed by the specified due dates.

Hybrid courses are identified with a "H" in the section number. The location and class time are listed, but the room number may not be listed yet. 


Hybrid - Spanish

Hybrid Lectures/Lab Courses

A lecture/lab is identified with an "A" after the section number. The "A" groups the lecture and lab. The lecture is taught online (with no meeting time or room listed) and the lab meets in-person (with a meeting time and location listed).
