Biography

Dr. Asif Ahmed is an Associate Professor at SUNY Polytechnic Institute whose research lies at the intersection of geotechnical engineering, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and engineering education. He has been widely involved in topics such as climate-informed hazard assessment, soil instrumentation, and the integration of advanced data analytics in geotechnical applications. In recent years, Dr. Ahmed has led projects that leverage remote sensing data, app development, and AI-driven platforms to make hazard prediction tools more accessible and scalable. A committed educator, he has developed innovative curricula that incorporate equity, sustainability, and emerging technologies into civil engineering courses, and he is an active mentor of undergraduate and graduate students. Beyond academia, Dr. Ahmed contributes to the profession through leadership roles in ASCE and ABET, and through extensive outreach with local schools, community colleges, and professional societies, advancing both technical innovation and inclusive engagement in engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in the state of New York.
