Mya Kyaw

Mya Kyaw is an academic advisor, educator, and public health professional with a passion for supporting students as they navigate college, discover their strengths, and work toward their academic and career goals. Her professional experience has focused largely on supporting first-generation, low-income, and historically underrepresented students, particularly those interested in STEM and health-related fields.

Mya began her work in student support at Mohawk Valley Community College, where she served as an Academic Advisor for the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) in 2022. In this role, she provided individualized, student-centered support to undergraduate students, helping them navigate academic planning, internships, transfer opportunities, and other important milestones. In 2023, she transitioned to the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) as a Program Advisor, where she worked with middle and high school students through weekly school visits, recruitment, workshops, student activities, and college and financial aid preparation.

Today, Mya serves as an ACE Academic Advisor at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, where she continues to provide personalized academic guidance while helping students build connections, navigate challenges, and make the most of their college experience. Her approach to advising is rooted in the belief that student success is about more than completing a degree; it is also about helping students feel supported, confident, and connected throughout their journey. In addition to advising, Mya is expanding her work in higher education through teaching. She teaches First-Year Seminar and serves as a teaching assistant in the College of Health Sciences for the new Public Health minor, allowing her to bring together her interests in student development, education, and public health.

Mya holds an Associate of Science in Mathematics and Science – Biology from Mohawk Valley Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from Binghamton University, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Boston University School of Public Health, with a focus on Health Equity. Across her work as an advisor, educator, and public health professional, she is committed to creating environments where students feel welcomed, encouraged, and empowered to find their own path forward.
