On March 26, SUNY Poly Associate Professor of Biology Dr. Lauren Endres gave an invited talk on forever chemicals at the Wynn Hospital as part of the Mohawk Valley Health System's Physicians and Faculty Development Series.

Her presentation centered on research she’s done investigating the potential of PFAS (per and polyfluoroalkylated substances) to induce oxidative stress in cells with links to diseases such as cancer and aging.

That research, which Dr. Endres led with assistance from three SUNY Poly biology alums, Bethany Lee, Taylor Rhan and Jessica Seaman, is open access and titled, “2'-O-ribose methylation of transfer RNA promotes recovery from oxidative stress in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.” The study was motivated by two observations that support a role for tRNA modification systems in the oxidative stress response, as there are questions on how cells engage with those systems to survive and recover from oxidative stress after toxicant exposure.
