As part of the SUNY Poly Spotlight Series, SUNY Polytechnic Institute will offer a four-week beginner salsa dance series for people and “dancers” of all ages.

Get ready to step onto the dance floor and experience the energy, rhythm, and excitement of Salsa dancing at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. Beginning Thursday, May 28, SUNY Poly will host salsa dance lessons for beginners as a four-week series held every Thursday through Thursday, June 18.

Classes will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the second-floor Multi-Purpose Room of the Wildcat Field House, located at 100 Seymour Road, Utica, NY.

Led by Dr. Pallavi Gupta-Bouder, a Lecturer in SUNY Poly’s Department of Biology, this introductory ballroom dance series offers participants a fun and welcoming environment to learn the foundational steps and techniques of Salsa dancing. Through engaging instruction focused on rhythm, footwork, and partner connection, participants will gain confidence while enjoying the social and energetic atmosphere of Latin dance.

No prior dance experience is necessary, and participants do not need to bring a dance partner. Open to all ages, the class is designed for beginners looking to explore movement, music, and social connection in an encouraging setting. Participants are encouraged to bring shoes with smooth bottoms to enhance movement during the lessons.

“There is nothing more freeing than dancing,” said Gupta-Bouder. “Salsa is an exciting way to move, connect with others, and have fun while learning something new.”

The four-session series will be held on May 28, June 4, June 11, and June 18.

The cost is $10 per person per session. Registration for each session is required by noon each date, and participation is limited to 30 individuals.

Community members can register by visiting sunypoly.edu/spotlight.

The SUNY Poly Spotlight Series features camps for children and teens, along with events and workshops for community members of all ages. Showcasing the expertise of SUNY Poly faculty, staff, and Mohawk Valley partners, the series offers engaging opportunities for learning and exploration in STEM, the arts, athletics, wellness, and more.
