Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As we prepare to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the profound impact of Dr. King’s life and legacy. His enduring commitment to justice, equity, and the power of collective action continues to serve as a guidepost for our communities and the world.

Dr. King’s vision of a society rooted in equality and compassion calls upon each of us to contribute meaningfully to the pursuit of these ideals. His unwavering dedication to civil rights, nonviolent activism, and the belief in the transformative power of education remains a reminder of our shared responsibility to foster inclusion and understanding.

At SUNY Poly, we strive to embody the principles that Dr. King championed by fostering a community where diversity, equity, and belonging are central to our mission. I encourage you to honor his legacy by engaging in acts of service, participating in meaningful dialogue, and reflecting on how we can collectively contribute to a more just and equitable future.

In recognition of this day, let us reaffirm our commitment to the values of empathy, solidarity, and progress.

As Dr. King said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” May we use this day as a moment to answer that call and inspire positive change in our community and beyond.

SUNY Poly Equity & Empowerment Symposium
in collaboration with SUNY Morrisville, SUNY Herkimer & Mohawk Valley Community College

This annual Fall event gathered over one hundred attendees from our campus, the local community, and partners across the SUNY system to engage in meaningful discussions on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, featuring keynote speakers and interactive breakout sessions.

Each year, the event focuses on a unique theme that addresses timely and impactful topics within the broader framework of equity and empowerment. Most recently, the theme centered around the concept of belonging, exploring how institutions can foster environments where everyone feels valued, supported, and connected. This focus sparked thought-provoking conversations and actionable strategies for strengthening our communities.
