A New Way to Experience Campus
Through the SUNY Outdoors for All initiative, SUNY Poly is developing an 18-hole disc golf course on campus. The course will provide a free and accessible outdoor recreation opportunity while creating new opportunities for student engagement, community partnerships, events and experiential learning.

Building the Course
The Wildcat Disc Golf Course is the result of collaboration among students, faculty, staff and community partners.
Academic Learning
Students in SUNY Poly's Civil Engineering Technology program completed preliminary course layout and signage design as part of their capstone experience. The project provides students with hands-on experience applying their academic knowledge to a real campus project.
Course Development
Disc golf baskets have been purchased and installation is underway. Concrete bases have been prepared and course locations will be finalized following a trial period and consultation with experienced players and community partners.
Student Leadership
SUNY Poly students are working toward establishing a Student Disc Golf Club. A student affiliated with the Professional Disc Golf Association is expected to serve as the club's founding president.
Community Partnership
SUNY Poly has partnered with the Mohawk Valley Disc Golf Association and engaged local disc golf enthusiasts in course planning and future programming. These partnerships will help support the course long-term.
More Than a Course
The Wildcat Disc Golf Course will become a new gathering place for recreation, learning and community engagement.
18 Holes
The project expanded from an initial nine-hole concept to a full 18-hole course with support from Student Government.
Free Recreation
The course will provide students and members of the campus community with a free outdoor recreational activity.
Community Events
Future programming will include tournaments, beginner events and opportunities for the broader community to experience SUNY Poly's campus.
Freshman Experience
A round of disc golf is expected to become part of Freshman Year Experience programming and friendly group competitions.
Student Organization
A Student Disc Golf Club is expected to launch in Fall 2026, creating opportunities for leadership, recreation and community.
Fall 2026 Opening
A grand opening and community tournament are being planned for Fall 2026.
A Community-Built Project
The course has brought together people from across SUNY Poly and the greater Mohawk Valley.
Students
Students have contributed through the Civil Engineering Technology capstone project, the public information session, Student Government funding and the development of a new Student Disc Golf Club.
Faculty & Staff
Faculty and staff from Civil Engineering Technology, Facilities, Athletics, Maintenance, External Relations and Events have collaborated on design, procurement, installation and future programming.
Community
Approximately 40 people participated in the public information session, including campus representatives, local disc golf organizations, community members and representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation.

Course Development Progress
