Why did you choose SUNY Poly?

I chose SUNY Poly because of the Interactive Media and Game Design program, which I am passionate about. The program is young and so is the industry, so I was excited to come here to experience the evolution of the program, learn things that will help grow my excitement for game design, and enjoy the school’s open community.

How did you choose your major?

I chose what I have been passionate about since I can remember, video games. Making video games, specifically, has always been an interest of mine and I wanted to learn more to improve my own projects and maybe, eventually, join a game design company.

What has been your favorite class so far and why?

My favorite class so far is Introduction to Digital Media and Game Design because I learned about how video games are made. The principles used and the design choices that make a game great are all taught in this course, and we were able to examine them from the perspective of our own interests.

What type of research projects are you (or plan to get) involved in?

I am a solo game designer and focusing on improving my 2D pixel artwork and 3D modeling work through researching techniques that will help me. I plan on working on some games with a team when I can assemble one later in my time at SUNY Poly.

What activities are you involved in on campus? Why did you decide to get involved in these activities?

I am part of two clubs at the moment. I am the secretary of the game design club, which has allowed me to meet other designers and learn from them. I am also part of the Poly Pride club because I am an openly pansexual individual who likes to be around accepting people.

What has been your best experience at SUNY Poly so far?

My best experience so far has been some of the events held by the school and different clubs. The two most memorable events are when SUNY Poly brought a bouncy castle to campus and Casino Night.

What is your favorite thing about being a part of the SUNY Poly community?

My favorite thing about being part of the SUNY Poly community is embracing my college. Trying to make an impact while I am here is a small goal of mine and getting involved in my program is how I want to make that impact.
