Community + Behavioral Health - CBH News

Students and faculty in CBH engage in a wide range of interesting activities, both on and off campus. Take a look below:

SUNY Poly graduate Devin Getchell Read about one of our alumni, Devin Getchell, who received a position with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) upon graduation.

Rohan Banton is a CBH grad and the coordinator of the No Cold Feet 2018 Footwear Drive. He teamed up with his good friend Robert Townsend to clean and give away shoes to people who really need them. The event was held at the Restful Nights Organization, a new-age adult homeless shelter catering to families, in South Jamica, Queens. Fellow SUNY Poly alum, Jada Simpson, helped with designing the flyer for the event. Donations poured in and the team collected, cleaned, and labeled over 200 pairs of shoes. The day of the event everyone was greeted with a bag for their new shoes, new socks, and a water bottle. Rohan hopes that next year #NOCOLDFEET will grow, helping members of the community one pair at a time.

Six CBH students and two students from the Upstate Cerebral Palsy College LiFE (Learning is for Everyone) Program participated in a student showcase event sponsored jointly by Morrisville College, SUNY Poly and Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Morrisville College. College LiFE is a program on the SUNY Poly campus that provides young adults with developmental disabilities the opportunities to build life and employment skills while enjoying a college environment with their age-peers.  The students from an upper-level CBH course worked on a joint project with LiFE students. CBH students received training in POMs (Personal Outcomes Measures assessment) and interviewed LiFE students about the quality of their lives, with an eye toward opportunities for growth. CBH students analyzed the results (comparing their own POMs scores with those of the LiFE students); both CBH and LiFE students then created poster presentations detailing their results and experiences in this service-based learning project for the Morrisville conference.
