Applications now being accepted for the fall 2019 semester

UTICA, NY – Nurse leaders in middle-management positions can become well equipped for the challenges of today’s healthcare system with a new master’s degree program in Transformational Leadership in Nursing at SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly), which aims to provide students who take part in the program with a focused, top-tier education to ensure they thrive in careers where they will be able to provide quality, cost-effective medical care for patients.

The 39-credit graduate program will be offered online beginning the fall 2019 semester, allowing both full-time and part-time baccalaureate students to complete it in two and four years, respectively. Practicum experiences will be integrated for a total of 150 practicum hours, offering students a wide range of educational opportunities.

“Once again, SUNY Poly is proud to be at the forefront of providing our future healthcare leaders yet another quality experience in this exciting field where this unique skillset is always in high-demand,” said SUNY Poly Interim President Dr. Grace Wang. “While all students enrolled in SUNY Poly’s nursing programs will have access to the same tools and knowledge, this online program will help to ensure access to every student no matter how busy their schedule may be. This program is a welcome addition to our ongoing efforts to offer both current and prospective nursing students an opportunity to earn degrees through both traditional and non-traditional classroom and field settings.”

Graduates of the program will also be eligible to complete the nationally recognized American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Nurse Executive board certification examination (NE-BC), paving the way for continued doctoral study and research. An online baccalaureate nursing program at SUNY Poly was implemented in fall 2018.

“I am delighted that SUNY Poly will once again be offering a program that prepares nurse leaders to thrive in an increasingly complex, ever changing healthcare environment,” said Dr. Kathleen Sellers, coordinator of the Transformational Leadership Program. “The focus on finance, health systems, and information management augment the clinical and experiential skills of those currently leading today’s nursing organizations. This program’s flexible online format provides a platform that facilitates knowledge development that is created from an integration of theoretical content and practice experience.”

Current nurses interested in this program with academic questions may contact Dr. Kathleen Sellers at (315) 792-7295 or kathleen.sellers@sunypoly.edu. Those with questions regarding admissions are encouraged to contact Director of Graduate Admissions Alicia Foster at (315) 792-7347 or alicia.foster@sunypoly.edu.
