SUNY Poly Holds High Positions in 2019 U.S. News & World Report Rankings

Continues to rank high on lists of Best Colleges, Public Regional Universities, and Best Colleges for Veterans

Albany and Utica, NY – The high-quality educational offerings of SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) continue to receive national recognition, with U.S. News & World Report ranking the institution 18th in its 2019 list of Best Colleges in the Regional Universities North category, as well as 11th in the Best Value Schools category.

“I am proud to congratulate our faculty and staff for enabling SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s top-tier education that allows our students to enjoy an excellent academic experience for an incredible value, as recognized by U.S. News & World Report,” said Dr. Grace Wang, Interim President of SUNY Poly. “These rankings are a wonderful testament to this institution’s high-quality educational programs, and we hope our current and prospective students will leverage the academic and campus offerings as well as the exciting opportunities that await them here.”

Additionally, SUNY Poly remains 3rd in Top Public Regional Universities North for the third year in a row and is ranked 8th for Best Colleges for Veterans amid Regional Universities North.

The annual rankings by U.S. News & World Report group schools based upon their Carnegie Classification, created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. SUNY Poly is included in the Regional Universities North category and placed 18th overall out of 141 ranked universities. Within its classification, SUNY Poly also ranked:

  • 3rd in Public Regional Universities North
  • 8th in the Best Colleges for Veterans
  • 11th in Best Value Schools

Consistent high rankings such as these are a positive recognition of a number of aspects of SUNY Poly’s educational offerings, as U.S. News & World Report maintains several general ranking categories, each with different weights assigned to them to determine the final institution positions. These categories include graduation and retention, assessment of excellence, and faculty and financial resources, among others.

“SUNY Poly’s rankings with U.S. News & World Report can be attributed to the dedication, talent, and hard work of our faculty, staff, and students,” said Dr. Steven Schneider, Interim SUNY Poly Provost. “This is a reinforcement that the work being done here provides our graduates with the skills and qualifications they need to head out into the workforce and make positive changes in the world around them. It also showcases the incredible return on investment to SUNY Poly students after they receive an immersive, hands-on education.”

Throughout the past year, SUNY Poly has seen increased enrollment in programs such as Interactive Media and Game Design and Biology. The institution has also continued to expand its programs and course offerings for students with a Bachelor of Finance program, a concentration in forensic accounting and valuation within the Master of Science in Accounting program, by also offering a new Master of Science program in Advanced Technology, and expanding SUNY Poly’s many online program offerings, including an online bachelor’s degree in nursing, online bachelor’s degree in Health Management Information, and an advanced certificate in forensic accounting and valuation.
