Dr. Cafaro

SUNY Polytechnic Institute Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics, Dr. Carlo Cafaro, is the lead author of a quantum physics work recently published in Physical Review A, a journal of the American Physical Society. This work is the outcome of a collaboration among Dr. Cafaro, Dr. Paul Alsing- Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL)-Information Directorate’s Quantum Information Processing Group Lead, and Dr. Shannon Ray- Postdoctoral Researcher in Dr. Alsing’s Group at the AFRL in Rome-NY.

The research paper, “Geometric Aspects of Analog Quantum Search Evolutions,” details a viewpoint where the authors describe and, to a certain extent, explain continuous-time quantum mechanical search evolutions in terms of intuitive geometric concepts yielding useful physical insights. This fresh physical perspective of geometric flavor is an additional step forward towards the very important quantification of a trade-off between speed (that is, time optimality) and thermodynamic efficiency in quantum computational tasks.
