Nationwide ranking highlights student return on investment at SUNY Poly

Utica, NY – Showcasing the ongoing commitment to providing superior educational opportunities throughout New York State, SUNY Polytechnic Institute's Master's in Accountancy program has been ranked 24th nationwide for best value.

The ranking by ValueColleges.com sets SUNY Poly ahead of other institutions such as University of Dallas (#45), University of Michigan – Flint (#47), and DeVry University (#41).

"We are incredibly thankful to the faculty and staff of SUNY Poly, as it is their expertise and dedication that have helped us earn this ranking and continue to make SUNY Poly a leader in higher education," said Dr. Bahgat Sammakia, Interim President of SUNY Polytechnic Institute. "We are thrilled to be honored by ValueColleges.com for our outstanding level of excellence in the Master of Accountancy program."

According to ValueColleges.com, their choices for the best in accounting graduate programs included online degrees from major public research universities, liberal arts colleges, Christian institutions, and more. Schools and programs were evaluated by return on investment, ranking placement from U.S. News & World Report's online graduate business ranking, and the cost per online credit as stated on each institution's website.

"This ranking is a wonderful testament to the quality and value of the top-tier education available here at SUNY Poly," said Dr. William Durgin, Provost of SUNY Polytechnic Institute. "It guarantees that the programs students find at SUNY Poly are not only the highest caliber but also affordable."

The SUNY Poly Master of Science in Accountancy program is primarily intended for students who have the equivalent of an undergraduate degree in accounting. Students who may not have a background in accounting but desire an opportunity to broaden their capabilities and specialize in this area are afforded the option of doing so. These students would be required to include additional preparatory work in their program and would do that under the guidance of the program coordinator.

"The recent ranking news affirms our College of Business Management faculty's deep commitment to our students by creating and delivering outstanding accounting curriculum at affordable prices," said Dr. Robert Edgell, Interim Dean of the College of Business Management. "I applaud these efforts, especially the inventiveness of our faculty as they expand our curriculum with new innovations such as our forthcoming forensic accounting and valuation concentration."

The profession, according to the Labor Bureau, is projected to grow 11% percent from 2014 to 2024. In general, employment growth of accountants and auditors is expected to be closely tied to the health of the overall economy. The Bureau states that as the economy grows, workers in this field will continue to be needed to prepare and examine financial records.
