SUNYIT will receive the second-highest award given to SUNY campuses across the state to support workforce development in high-need career fields. Governor Andrew M. The top four grants are: Stony Brook University, $2,446,537; SUNYIT, $1,762,950; Binghamton University, $1,704,000; and the University at Buffalo, $1,265,000.

Durgin, SUNYIT provost. "Educating students in these critical areas is an important part of our mission, and high-needs funding will pay significant dividends as graduates become part of New York's growing workforce."

SUNY originally established the High Needs Program to address the growing demand for nurses and engineer across the state. Since the program’s inception, SUNY has worked with other state agencies, including the Department of Labor and Empire State Development Corporation, to expand the areas of eligibility. SUNYIT's three-year grant will support faculty costs associated with academic programs related to four of the High Needs Program's targeted areas:  information technology, health care, engineering-engineering technologies, and renewable-clean energy.
